Finally, impact evaluation
that's simple to use
and powerful enough to prove value
Essential Impact Evaluation (EIE) gives you a practical, proven method to show what's working in your L&D programs, what’s not, and how to get even better results. No complex statistics required—just clear evidence that strengthens decisions and demonstrates value.
What is Essential Impact Evaluation?
Essential Impact Evaluation (EIE) is a straightforward approach to measuring L&D impact. It gives you research-backed methods that any L&D professional can confidently use—without jargon, complex processes, or excessive time investment. You'll demonstrate value while identifying exactly what needs to change to maximize your programs' impact.
Why EIE works differently:
- Rigorous yet practical: reliable, research-backed methods
- Built for action: Produces clear proof that stakeholders actually use to make decisions
- Respectful of your time: Efficient by design—get to meaningful insights faster
- Focused on improvement: Reveals not just if training worked, but what factors drive impact and what gets in the way
You'll demonstrate value while identifying exactly what needs to change to maximize L&D's impact.

What you'll gain from the masterclass
You'll leave with the practical capabilities - and resources and tools - to conduct your own impact evaluations and produce evidence that drives real change.

- A clear method to evaluate any L&D initiative
- Ready-to-use tools and resources you can implement immediately
- Confidence to produce findings that are credible and compelling
- Skills to demonstrate L&D value while identifying improvement opportunities

About the method
Essential Impact Evaluation shares its conceptual foundation with the well-established Success Case Method (SCM)—both focus on discovering what works, for whom, and why. Where they differ is in scope and simplicity: EIE is more streamlined and practical, designed specifically for today's time-constrained L&D professionals who need efficient, actionable evaluation.
Both paths lead to the same goal: stronger learning, clearer impact, and better decisions.
EIE was created by distilling decades of real-world impact evaluation experience into a straightforward, research-based method. It strips away unnecessary complexity while preserving what matters most: the ability to produce valid, compelling evidence that drives improvement and demonstrates value.
The expertise behind EIE
Essential Impact Evaluation was created by Robert Brinkerhoff, who has been a leading voice in training impact and effectiveness for more than 40 years.
Professor Brinkerhoff has conducted impact evaluations for dozens of major organizations worldwide, including the World Bank, Amazon, Cisco, Ford Motor Company, Merck, Hewlett Packard, the U.S. Postal Service, and many others. He's taken all of this expertise and distilled it into the EIE approach—a practical method any reasonably experienced L&D professional can use to conduct highly effective evaluations.
His philosophy is simple: "This is not rocket science!" Impact evaluation has become overcomplicated, filled with obscure terminology and overly complex methods. L&D professionals can and should be conducting far more evaluation than they currently are—and EIE makes that possible.
